2nd Flour Miller, Chelmsford
Our automated flour mill is a unique mix of high-tech milling machinery and traditional elements, such as the historic millstones used to produce stoneground flour.
Working as part of a small team, as a 2nd Miller you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day efficient and safe running of the roller and stone mills, and packing of flour in retail packs whilst maintaining the required hygiene standards. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the correct quantity and quality of flours are produced to meet customer specifications. Full training will be provided. There is the opportunity for career progression, to become a Flour Miller, on successful completion of industry qualifications.
The Role:
Pattern of work: Sunday 2200 to Friday 2200, rotated over 3 shifts covering 24 hours. Day shifts will be worked during the period of training.
Key tasks:
- Running the stone mill plants, ensuring regular quality checks are conducted and flour produced to specification.
- Operating the retail packing line to pack flour and ensuring the machine is supplied with packaging materials, as required.
- Stacking pallets with finished flour and shrink-wrapping loads.
- Maintaining accurate records of production and packing.
- Keeping additive pots topped up on both the roller mill and stone mill plant.
- Packing bran, middlings, and flour in the mill as required, and mixing back returned flour.
- Keeping equipment running efficiently and productively.
- Conducting cleaning to the highest standard.
- Assisting in the warehouse and supporting the Flour Millers as required.
- Vehicle loading outside core warehouse team hours.
- Complying with all company Health and Safety and Hygiene rules.
Person specification:
Essential:
- GCSE or equivalent English and Maths.
- English, numerical and verbal reasoning ability; accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good team work and effective communication skills.
- Comfortable with manual handling and lifting.
- Willingness to learn.
Desired:
- Previous milling, food, or process industry experience.
- Forklift truck qualification.
