Business Development Manager
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our team.
As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for new business development, as well as managing existing accounts for our premium quality flour in the artisanal bakery, retail farm shops, manufacturing, food service and wholesale sectors. You will build strong relationships to ensure a high level of service to customers.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying new sales opportunities, following up enquiries, and opening new accounts
- Maintaining and developing customer relationships, via regular communication and visits
- Developing profitable sales and achieving agreed upon annual sales targets
- Undertaking commercial negotiations with customers
- Regular reporting on sales activities and pipeline to the Flour Sales Manager
- Staying up to date on market trends and competitor activity, identifying sales and NPD opportunities
- Delivering sales promotions and marketing activities, working in conjunction with the Marketing Manager
- Debtor management and credit monitoring
- Liaising with the Technical team on complaint resolution, technical enquiries, and NPD
- Working closely with office sales, Production, and Transport teams to ensure a high level of customer service
Skills and experience:
- Proven track record of achieving profitable sales in the food sector - but applications considered if you have relevant transferrable experience from other sectors
- Experienced in developing new business and customer relationship management
- Customer-focused with a commercial understanding and negotiating ability
- Excellent communication skills (in person, phone, email, and social media)
- IT literate (including Excel, ERP)
- Proactive, driven self-starter, able to work autonomously as well as part of a small team
- Bakery or chef experience beneficial
- Full clean driving licence
This is a home-based, field sales role and will require regular working away from home, with some overnight stays.

Flour Mill Day Worker, Chelmsford
To provide general operative support in the Flour Mill, including prepack and warehouse.
Main tasks include:
- Pack bran.
- Pack middlings.
- Check bran and middlings weighing scales daily before use.
- Throws down bran and middlings as required
- Keep additive pots topped up both on rollermill and stone mill.
- Assist Rollerman as required.
- Assist in running the stone mill as required.

Hygiene Operative - Flour Mill, Chelmsford
The Hygiene Operative is responsible for ensuring that the Flour Mill and warehouse areas are hygienic and preserving product quality and integrity. Ensuring that expected hygiene quality standards are maintained for customers and external audit bodies; helping to drive continuous improvement across the site.
The basic hours of work will be 37.5 hours to be worked between 8.30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Applications for part-time hours will be considered.
Key tasks
- Ensuring production areas are always kept clean and tidy.
- Cleaning of walls, floors, machinery, equipment, utensils, and the removal of rubbish.
- Detailed cleaning of some machinery.

Our team of Drivers represents the company professionally with a high level of customer service. They ensure that all deliveries of flour and animal feed to customer premises are done so safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Bulk delivery of blown flour and animal feed to customer sites
- Delivering packed flour and feed product, including handball of 16kg-20kg bags (carrying sacks of product into customer premises)
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects accordingly
- Ensuring all loads are safe and secure
- Accurately completing daily paperwork, ensuring Proof of Deliveries is signed and completed by the customer
- Ensuring compliance with driving hours rules and regulations at all times

Assistant Miller (No 2), Chelmsford
W & H Marriage & Sons is looking for an Assistant Miller (No 2) / Packing OperativeĀ at our site in Chelmsford City centre, Essex.
Our automated flour mill is a unique mix of high-tech milling machinery and traditional elements, such as the historic mill stones used to produce stoneground flour.
The Role:
Working as part of a small team, as a 2nd Miller you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day efficient and safe running of the roller and stone mills and packing of flour in retail packs whilst maintaining the required hygiene standards. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the correct quantity and quality of flours are produced to meet customer specifications. Full training will be provided.
There is the opportunity for career progression, to become a Flour Miller, on successful completion of industry qualifications.
Pattern of work: Sunday 2200 to Friday 2200, rotated over 3 shifts covering 24 hours. Day shifts will be worked during period of training.
Key tasks:
- Running the stone mill plants, ensuring regular quality checks are conducted and flour produced in specification.
- Operating the retail packing line to pack flour and ensuring the machine is supplied with packaging materials, as required.
- Stacking pallets with finished flour and shrink-wrapping loads.
- Maintaining accurate records of production and packing.
- Keeping additive pots topped up on both the roller mill and stone mill plant.
